Sergeant Major Stanford was born 16th of January, 1963 in Jeannette, Pa. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on 13 July, 1981 and attended recruit training at MCRD Parris Island, S.C., where he was meritoriously promoted to Private First Class.

Following recruit training; he was assigned to Marine Wing Engineer Squadron 27, 2nd Marine Air Wing, Cherry Point, N.C. as a Bulk Fuel Specialist where he was meritoriously promoted to the rank of LCpl. In June of 1982, LCpl Stanford was transferred to 9th Engineer Support Bn, 3d FSSG. During his tour he was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Corporal holding the billet of squad leader and platoon Sgt.

In June of 1983, he was transferred to 7th Engineer Support Bn, 1st FSSG where he served in his primary MOS and as a Correctional Custody Instructor. In August of 1984, he was transferred to 8th Engineer Support Bn, 2d FSSG. While deployed to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba as the NCOIC of the Fuels Facility, Cpl. Stanford was meritoriously promoted to Sgt.

In October of 1985 he was transferred to MCRD Parris Island where he served on Drill Instructor duty holding the billets of Assistant Drill Instructor, receiving Drill Instructor and the section NCOIC for Recruits Awaiting Disposition. In Feb of 1989 he was transferred to BSSG - 1, 1st MEB for duty where he was promoted to the rank of SSgt and assigned as the Maintenance Management Chief.

Shortly thereafter, he was reassigned to Brigade Schools and served as a platoon advisor at the NCO Academy. In Sept of 1990, SSgt Stanford participated in DESERT SHIELD/DESERT STORM as Platoon Sgt. for the Fuels Detachment and later reassigned as the Tactical Security Chief for Combat Service Support Detachment -10. Upon the completion of Desert Storm, SSgt Stanford returned to his previous command.

In June of 1992, he was transferred to MWSS - 371, 3d MAW, Yuma, AZ. holding the billet of Platoon Sgt. and Section Chief. In Aug of 1995, GySgt Stanford was transferred to Marine Aviations Weapons and Tactics Squadron as the Forward Arming and Refueling Point Coordinator for the Aviation and Ground Section. While assigned, he initiated procedural doctrine for hot refueling of aircraft with explosive ordnance onboard in a F. A. R. P., later published by Naval Air System Command. In July of 1997, he was transferred to 1st MAW, and served as Maintenance Management Chief and Section Leader.

Upon selection to First Sergeant, he was reassigned to 3d Force Service Support Group and served as the First Sergeant for three companies. The Engineer Maintenance Company, selected for CSSD-35, and then the General Support Maintenance Company.

In April of 2000 he was transferred to Marine Corps Base, Alpha Company as the 1stSgt. In June, 2003 he was transferred to the School of Infantry (east), Infantry Training Battalion, until his selection to Sergeant Major in October of 2003.

He was transferred to 2d Combat Engineer Battalion, 2d Marine Division where he served until his transfer to 2d MAW, HML/A – 269 in Nov of 05. While assigned to HML/A 269, he participated in OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM 5-7 and 6-8. In June of 2008, SgtMaj. Stanford was transferred to MCAS Yuma, Arizona where he currently serves as the Station SgtMaj.
