Environmental Quality
Division Mission Statement
The Environmental Department Environmental
Quality Division is tasked with management of hazardous
materials (HM) and hazardous waste (HW), proper disposal of
HW, emergency response, environmental audits in work centers
and shops, and overall coordination of environmental
compliance operations at all MCAS Yuma areas, including the
Yuma Training Range Complex (YTRC). The Environmental Quality
Division Director or his/her assigned staff shall:
a. Be notified of any emergency or spill situation involving
HW/HM in any amount, and report all HW spills of reportable
quantities to Federal and State regulators.
b. Approve/disapprove all satellite accumulation areas and
ensure they are properly documented, as required.
c. Develop and coordinate initial and annual training for
personnel involved in HW operations who are providing
technical assistance to any unit involved in HW operations.
d. Provide technical assistance as required for all commands,
including tenant commands and visiting squadrons.
e. Coordinate handling of all unidentified drums of HW.
f. Implement a program to ensure testing of each waste stream
and maintaining of the waste stream inventory.
g. Maintain copies and monitor tracking of HW manifests.
h. Provide information to the Supply Department regarding
those materials that should be handled under the procedures
set forth in this SOP.
i. Conduct quarterly HW Management Coordinator meetings to
provide information on environmental compliance. Research and
discuss all pertinent HW issues.
j. Direct the day-to-day operations and actions of personnel
assigned to range environmental compliance, hazardous waste
disposal, underground storage tank management, and other
compliance requirements.
k. Coordinate clean up operations in response to HM/HW spills
from aircraft and vehicle mishaps and other incidents
resulting in an environmentally-hazardous release.
l. Provide environmental support and technical assistance to
Emergency Ordnance Disposal (EOD) personnel, including
treatment and disposal permits for all munitions.
m. Provide Range oversight for environmental compliance on the
YTRC. |
